Your meetings stay on your Mac.
CallCrumb is built so that nobody but you can read your meetings, not even us. This page explains, with no fine print, what stays on your Mac and what leaves it.
There is no CallCrumb cloud
Transcripts, people, notes, analyses and actions stay on your computer, in a local database. CallCrumb servers never receive any meeting content. To sell and update the app, only business data travels: purchase email, license ID, a random installation ID and the app version.
Everything written to disk is encrypted
- Speech, translations, names, notes, analyses and settings are encrypted field by field with AES-256-GCM before they reach the database.
- The master key lives in a file you own, outside the app. The app never copies it and only keeps it in memory while unlocked.
- The app locks itself after a period of inactivity, when the screen locks and when the Mac sleeps.
- Exports and backups are encrypted by default.
- Without the key, the data can't be recovered, not even by the people who made the app. Keep two copies off the Mac.
No bot in the meeting, no audio stored
In Google Meet, CallCrumb reads the captions Meet itself shows in your Chrome. In Zoom, Teams and in-person meetings, it transcribes the audio on your Mac and discards the audio right after. No extra participant ever joins the call.
What leaves your Mac, and where it goes
To translate and analyze, the AI has to read excerpts of the meeting. They only go to the AI account you chose:
| When | Goes to | What |
|---|---|---|
| Live translation | OpenAI, with your key, or Ollama, on your Mac | The caption text and a few lines of context |
| Analyses with Claude | Anthropic, on your account | The excerpts used in that analysis |
| Analyses with OpenAI | OpenAI, with your key | The excerpts used in that analysis |
| Calendar | The request for your list of events | |
| Cloud backup (optional) | Wherever you choose | An encrypted file |
| CallCrumb servers | Nothing | — |
If you use Claude through a subscription, we recommend turning off the use of your data for training in your account's privacy settings and checking your company's policy on personal accounts.
The AI only reads; you do the writing
In analyses, the AI only has read tools. Creating a Jira issue, an email or a calendar event needs a preview and your confirmation. Anything said in a meeting is treated as data, never as instructions.
No telemetry
The app sends no usage data. Its logs stay on your Mac, in English, and never contain speech, names, titles or notes.
Consent
As with any note-taking or transcription, informing participants or getting their consent under local law is up to the user. You can turn recording off for any meeting; with it off, nothing from that meeting goes to the AI.
